Hardness is property of material to offer resistance to elastic and plastic deformation or destruction at impact on its surface layer of material of other more hard body – indenter.

Technological process of metal hardness test

Ways of hardness determination depending on temporary nature of load application and measurement of resistance to indenter depression are divided into static and dynamic (shock).

The most commonly used methods – are static ones, at which load to indenter is applied smoothly and gradually and time of hold under load is regulated by standards for corresponding methods.

At dynamic methods of hardness determination indenter will impact on sample with specific kinetic energy which is spent on elastic comeback and/or forming of imprint.

For the purpose of hardness measurement, specialists of “Center of industrial diagnostics and control” LLC employ several scales (measurement methods): HV, HRC, HB using as indenter hard-metal balls, diamond cones or diamond pyramids respectively. Specific way of hardness determination is selected on the basis of material properties, tasks of measurement, conditions of its execution, available equipment etc.
